Without the involvement of willing volunteers and interns, Cara might not exist today.

Cara offers a number of opportunities to interns and volunteers to support our work and gain valuable not-for-profit experience.  As a small organisation Cara is reliant on the important work of interns and volunteers who are often given more responsibility than they might find in larger organisations.

There are also a number of ways volunteers working in either academia and an allied profession can support Cara’s work.

Work for Us

Cara offers a number of part-time (6 months) and full-time (3 months) positions supporting our work in the UK and abroad. Opportunities are available throughout the year and are advertised on the charityjobs website. To volunteer, we recommend you contact the office directly with a CV and cover letter.

Become a Student Ambassador

We are always seeking Student Ambassadors to represent Cara at their institution. The aim of the role is to raise awareness of our history, campaigns and initiatives, and to promote our work supporting at-risk academics, and defending academic freedom. Positions are advertised on your university careers website.

Cara Champions

Countless academics, university administrators and managers, offer their humanity, their generosity and the practical, but essential, support to Cara and its Fellows. There are also many with no apparent affiliation to academia, who ‘get’ our work, opening their homes to our Fellows. Click here for more information.

Become a Cara Advisor

Cara is always looking to extend its own expertise by seeking academic and professional volunteers to provide appropriate advice and guidance to support our work. This includes discipline-based and regional advice, and professional expertise in a range of fields such as media and communication. Contact us for more information.
