Cara Fellow Shahira Shahir describes her difficult but successful journey, with Cara's help, from Afghanistan to Wales - "Now I feel freedom".
Shahira was a lecturer in Herat, Afghanistan, when the Taliban re-captured Kabul in August 2021. Suddenly, her life changed, and her career seemed at an end. With Cara's support she found a place at Cardiff Metropolitan University and applied successfully for her UK visa, collecting it in Teheran. She is now working for her PhD and has also been awarded a Fellowship at Cumberland Lodge. Watch her tell her story in her own words here.
