With deep sadness, Cara takes note of the death of Liu Xiaobo, a former academic, intellectual, human rights campaigner and Nobel Peace Prize winner, who died in China under guard having been convicted in 2009 and sentenced to eleven years’ imprisonment and two years’ deprivation of political rights for “inciting the subversion of state power”.  He was awarded his Nobel Peace Prize while in prison; he was denied the right to have the Prize collected for him by a representative.
